Upper Mustang Trek is the most popular restricted region trekking adventure in the Himalayas of Nepal. The trek passes through several cultural villages before finally reaching to the Buddhist cultural hub of Lo Manthang.

The awesomeness of the trip starts with a beautiful mountain flight to Jomsom from Pokhara. The trekking adventure that starts from Jomsom goes along the banks of Kali Gandaki River that originates from a lake amidst the high mountains. As you trek higher, marvelous landscapes make the adventure walk even more fascinating and the views of snow-capped mountains adds on top of the awesomeness. When you reach Lo Manthang, you will feel like you are in a completely different world that is amazingly rich in cultural aesthetics and humble life style. Itinerary

  • Day 1
    Arrival day in Kathmandu (1,350 m)

    It is the first day of trip and your arrival day in Kathmandu Nepal. When you land at the airport in Kathmandu and come out at the arrival lounge, our company representative will welcome you with a warm smile. Then, we will drive you to the trip hotel where you can spend relaxing time. We will have a meeting in the evening to talk about the trip in details.

  • Day 2
    Kathmandu Sightseeing Tour – B

    After you take your breakfast, a beautiful day sightseeing tour of heritage monuments in Kathmandu valley is due today. Visit Swoyambhunath – the monkey temple; Patan Durbar Square – the medieval palace square; Pashupatinath – the open cremation ground for Hindus; and Boudhanath – the biggest Buddhist stupa.

  • Day 3
    Kathmandu – Pokhara 900m - B

    Take your breakfast early and check out the hotel to travel to Pokhara today. We will drive to 200 kilometers west of Kathmandu to reach Pokhara, a charmingly beautiful city. About seven hours of drive will let us absorb the beauty of the Nepali rural settings. There will be a break on the way for the lunch. On reaching Pokhara and checking into our hotel, we will have some time to explore around the town on the lake side.

  • Day 4
    Pokhara – Jomsom – Kagbeni 3,550m – B.L.D

    Take an early morning flight to Jomsom. This breathtaking mountain flight will take you to Jomsom in about 20 minutes. As you fly above Pokhara valley towards the Annapurna range and then for the view of Dhaulagiri range of the Himalayas, you will simply be left awestruck by the majestic charm of the mighty, snow-capped peaks. Once you land at Jomsom airport, you prepare for the trek of the day. The trek today goes to Kagbeni. Walk along the Kali Gandaki River bank up to Kagbeni, where we stay overnight, in a steady and awesome trail.

  • Day 5
    Kagbeni - Chaile 3,050m – B.L.D

    Start trekking right above the Kali Gandaki River. The trail then widens significantly revealing an endless stretch of sand. You will encounter several passing of mule train carrying goods from Mustang and Tibet. On the west bank of the river are some caves and Gompa Kang. You can stop for lunch at the village of Tangbe, where you come across the first black, white and red chhortens that is typical of Upper Mustang region. Nilgiri Peak continues to dominate the southern skyline. Walk further and after crossing the Kali Gandaki River, climb steeply up a rocky alley to the village of Chaile to stay overnight.

  • Day 6
    Chaile - Geling 3,500m – B.L.D

    Trekking, for the day, starts early after breakfast today. Trekking through a desert like terrain where the trail passes by beautiful Buddhist chhortens is a wonderful spiritual experience. The unbelievably wonderful landscape continues further along with the walk. After walking up and down the mountain trails through high mountain passes, you reach the village of Geling. Before reaching Geling you walk past a few other beautiful villages of Samar, Syangboche and several other incredible places. Stay overnight at Geling.

  • Day 7
    Geling – Charang 3,620m – B.L.D

    It’s a big day today. There is a beautiful Himalayan pass called Nyi La pass and descending from the pass brings some wonderfully color changing landscapes. It is wonderful to see the landscapes turning blue to gray to red while you walk past those magical cliffs. The trek goes through another pass before reaching Charang village. Charang is a beautiful Buddhist village where one can explore amazing monasteries.

  • Day 8
    Charang – Lo Manthang 3,840m – B.L.D

    The trek today takes you to Lo Manthang. It’s a gentle climb on the very first section of the trek today taking you to Lo Gekar where you can explore an ancient monastery called Lo Gekar monastery. After trekking some up and down the hill on the trail, you reach Lo Manthang, the walled city, to stay overnight. Lo Manthang has the most ancient form of Tibetan Buddhist culture and tradition still in practice.

  • Day 9
    Exploration of Lo Manthang and Surroundings – B.L.D

    Take your breakfast and start the walk for the day. Making Lo Manthang the base for tonight, you are going for day hiking and explore the surrounding of Lo Manthang, Namgyal Gompa and Tingkar village. Immerse yourself into the spiritual vibrations of the Gompa; absorb the cultural traditions of people living in Tingkar village and make your day full of wonderful experience. After you finish the exploration, start making a return trip back to Lo Manthang for overnight stay.

  • Day 10
    Lo Manthang – Dhi 3,410m – B.L.D

    It’s the day to make your journey back. You will walk to Dhi village via Dhi pass. Early morning uphill trek takes you to the Dhi pass to be at 4100 meters above sea level. Crossing the Dhi pass you descend towards Dhi village to stay overnight. Once you are in Dhi, you can go around exploring the village.

  • Day 11
    Dhi – Tangbe 3,370m – B.L.D

    The walk today also takes you across a pass to go to Tangbe. You will walk along a river and through a pass to make descent to Tangbe, a small yet beautiful village. You will see piles of firewood and the more piles you have on your roof, the more prosperous you are considered to be. You can explore the charming village once you reach there.

    Stay overnight at Tangbe.

  • Day 12
    Tangbe – Chhusang 3,022m – B.L.D

    You are heading to Chhusang after the breakfast at the tea house. The walk along the Kali Gandaki River Valley brings some spectacular scenery with overwhelming charm. The incredible walk back down towards lower elevation makes you feel better, easier and more comfortable. Once you reach Chhusang village, you can explore the area.

  • Day 13
    Chhusang – Jomsom 2,710m – B.L.D

    The trek to Jomsom today will bring you across several wonderful places on the way. You will come across a very famous Buddhist monastery, herbal medicine center, Kali Gandaki River valley, Kagbeni village and several other wonderful places and scenic wonders before reaching Jomsom to celebrate the last day of trekking. Once you reach Jomsom, the trekking part of this trip is over after an unbelievable exploration of the restricted Mustang region. It is celebration time to cherish the wonderful memory experienced and stored in the mind and heart.

  • Day 14
    Jomsom – Pokhara 900m - B

    Take an early morning flight to Pokhara. Although a short flight of about 20 minutes, the flight brings some stunning mountain views to your sight. Once you reach your hotel, you can explore the beauty Pokhara. You can go for boating and wandering around the lakeside.

  • Day 15
    Pokhara – Kathmandu 1400m - B

    Take a drive back to Kathmandu. About six hours on the highway will give you time to observe the villages and towns on the way from a different angle. After reaching Kathmandu and checking into hotel, you will have some free time to wander around the streets of Thamel.

  • Day 16
    Departure Day - B

    We will drive you to airport for the departure flight three prior to your flight schedule.
